Southern Africa

DescriptionAn estimated 6 million internal displacements have been reported in Southern Africa in the last 15 years, of which 4.9 million were triggered by disasters and 1.1 million by conflict and violence. Most were recorded in Mozambique, which is affected by both triggers and where more data is produced than in other countries. Painting a clear picture of internal displacement trends at the sub-regional level is difficult, which underscores the need to improve and sustain monitoring efforts.
