Description: Eastern Africa recorded more internal displacements than any other sub-region between 2009 and 2023, with 56.3 million or 46 per cent of the total for the continent. Conflict and violence triggered 35.9 million movements and disasters 20.5 million. The sub-region has been the scene of some of the world’s largest conflict displacement crises, including in Ethiopia’s Tigray region and more recently in Sudan. Other countries, such as Somalia and South Sudan, have also experienced protracted conflict and displacement.
